A DAY HIKE AT KILIMAMBOGO HILL/OLDOINYO SABUK

Overview

Kilima Mbogo (also known as Ol Donyo Sabuk) is a prominent hill located in the Machakos County of Kenya. It is part of the Ol Donyo Sabuk National Park, which is about 65 kilometers northeast of Nairobi. The hill stands at an elevation of 2,145 meters above sea level, offering a moderately challenging hike with stunning views of the surrounding landscape.

Getting There

  • From Nairobi: The drive to Kilimambogo takes about 1.5 to 2 hours. The route typically involves taking the Thika Road (A2) and then branching off towards Thika town, from where you head towards Ol Donyo Sabuk town.
  • By Public Transport: You can take a matatu (shared taxi) from Nairobi to Thika and then hire a boda boda (motorbike taxi) to take you to the park entrance.
